Reviving Our Oceans, One Nursery at a Time

Coral reefs are vital to marine biodiversity, providing habitat, food, and protection for countless species. They also serve as natural barriers that shield coastlines from erosion and storm surges, while playing a critical role in oxygen production and carbon sequestration, contributing to global climate regulation. Oshn.Blue's Coral Restoration program aims to restore these essential ecosystems by nurturing coral nurseries where damaged or vulnerable coral can regrow and flourish.

Our Approach to Coral Restoration

Establishing Coral Nurseries
Working closely with local divers and environmental experts, Oshn.Blue establishes coral nurseries in the Maldives. These nurseries provide a controlled environment where coral fragments can grow and regenerate, helping to restore damaged reef areas over time. Our coral nursery program will serve as a sustainable source of coral transplants across the Maldives, supporting the recovery of fragile reefs.

Innovation and Techniques
To optimize coral growth and survival rates, we incorporate advanced techniques recognized globally:

Underwater Soundscapes: Research shows that playing sounds of healthy reefs attracts coral larvae and promotes settlement. We utilize underwater speakers to replicate these soundscapes, increasing settlement rates by up to seven times.

3D-Printed Clay Tiles: These terracotta tiles, designed to mimic natural coral structures, provide an ideal surface for coral to grow, boasting a survival rate of up to 95%.

Impact Tracking and Research
We monitor each coral nursery’s progress through direct observation, photography, videography, and reefscape mapping. By measuring coral growth rates, restoration coverage, and biodiversity increases, Oshn.Blue builds a comprehensive impact report. Our goal is to develop proprietary software that captures and shares these metrics, providing transparent and meaningful insights into the benefits of coral restoration.
